How to Build a Bilingual BDC That Books Appointments Instead of Leads
You can buy the best Spanish leads in your market and still sell nothing, because the moment of truth is not the ad. It is the first reply. A bilingual BDC is the difference between a lead list and a sales channel.
This is how the function should be built, whether you staff it internally or hand it to a partner.
The quick answer
A bilingual BDC that works has native Spanish speakers (not conversational learners), responds inside five minutes on WhatsApp and Messenger, qualifies on four things only (vehicle need, down payment, credit comfort, timing), books a specific day and time, confirms twice before the visit, and is measured on showed appointments rather than calls made.
Native speakers, not conversational speakers
The point of the Spanish rep is not translation, it is trust. A rep who is thinking in English and converting to Spanish loses tone, humor and regional vocabulary, and the buyer notices immediately. Hire for fluency, cultural familiarity and warmth in that order, and remember that Spanish is not uniform: Mexican, Caribbean and Central American vocabulary differ, and matching your market matters.
Coverage hours that match the buyer
A large share of this audience works trades, service and shift jobs. The leads arrive early morning, at lunch, and after 7pm. A BDC covering nine to five on weekdays will miss the majority of the response window. Evening and Saturday coverage is not a nice-to-have here, it is where the volume lives.
Qualify on four things, not fourteen
- Vehicle need: what they actually need the vehicle for, not which stock number they clicked
- Down payment: a realistic range, asked without judgment
- Credit comfort: not a score, just whether they expect it to be a factor
- Timing and decision makers: when they can come in and who is coming with them
Long qualification scripts kill threads. Every additional question before the appointment increases drop-off. Qualify enough that the desk is not wasting a slot, and no further.
Book specific, confirm twice
Come by anytime is not an appointment. Offer two concrete slots and let the buyer pick one. Then confirm the day before and again two hours before, in the same WhatsApp thread, with the name of the person who will greet them. Naming the greeter measurably lifts show rate, because the number one reason people skip a dealership visit is not disinterest, it is anticipated discomfort.
The handoff is where deals die
A buyer who spent a week in Spanish with a rep they trust, then arrives to an English-only floor and a blank stare, will leave. Assign a Spanish-speaking floor contact for every booked appointment, and pass the full thread context to that person before the buyer walks in. If the store has no Spanish speaker on the floor at that hour, the appointment should not be set for that hour.
Scorecards
- Median first-response time (target: under 5 minutes during coverage hours)
- Lead-to-conversation rate
- Conversation-to-appointment rate
- Appointment-to-show rate
- Show-to-sold rate, reported back to the campaign so creative can be tuned
Notice what is missing: dials, talk time, and activity counts. Measuring activity produces activity. Measuring showed appointments produces showed appointments.
How Hispanic Drive helps
Hispanic Drive runs a fully staffed bilingual BDC for dealerships as a managed channel. We build the Spanish creative, run the Meta and WhatsApp campaigns, staff the bilingual BDC that answers every lead, qualify the buyer, book the appointment, confirm it, and follow up after the visit. Your team does what it already does well: sell cars to the people who walk in.
We work with one dealership per market. If the Hispanic buyer in your city is currently going somewhere else, a strategy call is the fastest way to find out what that is costing you every month.
Book a strategy call
We map the Hispanic opportunity in your market, show you what the channel would look like at your store, and tell you honestly if it is not a fit.
